APSMA NSW NEXT STEP SESSION 3 | Tenders and Pitches

DATE: Thursday, 26 August 2010

Tendering or pitching is the foundation to any firm’s business development and marketing function. As we all know, winning tenders is an absolute priority for every firm. This session will identify where and how pursuits fits into the firm, it will look at developing the strategy - why we will win, producing a persuasive document and finally how to prepare for the oral presentation.

About the speakers

Rebecca Smith, Pursuit Management Leader, Ernst & Young

Rebecca has eight years of pursuits and account management experience. She joined Ernst & Young in 2004 and coordinated a number of multinational accounts. She later transferred into the specialist pursuit team following an enjoyable experience working on a high profile global audit pitch. In this role she worked on pursuits covering a range of industries and service offerings.

Rebecca relocated from Ernst & Young’s London office to Sydney in January this year. She leads a team of Pursuit Managers based in locations across Australia. Her focus is on building and communicating compelling value propositions and advising teams on how to run an efficient and effective pursuit process.

David Kennedy, Communications Coach, Ernst & Young

Prior to joining Ernst & Young in 2005, David was a Director of global communications consultancy, Rogen International, including time as Managing Director of both their Melbourne and London office.

During his years with Rogen David worked with people on various communication disciplines including training and coaching; the planning and execution of business pitches, major presentations and speeches; and consulting on other high stakes
communication issues. His ability to understand the basis of really effective communication, and the subtlety that makes it really effective, is of paramount importance.

As a communications and pitch coach at Ernst & Young, David consults on many face-to-face communications, in particular major new business pitches. This requires not only very good communication skills but solid processes and models that help the whole pitch team to excel.
